Solving India's Biggest Land Problem with Simple Technology

Land boundary disputes affect over 140 million rural families in India. BhuSetu solves this by comparing old cloth maps directly with modern drone surveys — in seconds, for free, in your own language.

01

Who is suffering?

Over 140 million small farmers and village families across India. Their land boundaries are recorded only on fragile, hand-drawn cloth maps (called Shajra) that are decades old and slowly rotting away.

Because these maps are hard to verify, land disputes make up 66% of all civil court cases in India. Families spend 10 to 20 years and their life savings fighting over simple boundary lines.

02

Why is it so hard to solve today?

The government is flying drones over villages through the SVAMITVA scheme, but farmers cannot understand raw drone photos, and village officials cannot easily match them to 50-year-old cloth maps.

Today, checking a boundary requires hiring expensive private surveyors or waiting months for a Patwari to visit with a physical measuring chain (Jarib). This is slow, costly, and leads to arguments.

03

What does BhuSetu do differently?

BhuSetu is an instant digital bridge. It automatically stretches and fits the old cloth map directly on top of the modern drone photo using smart mathematics (Thin Plate Spline).

In under 1 second, it highlights any boundary overlap or encroachment in clear colors (Green for safe, Orange for dispute) and calculates the exact area difference without needing any physical visit.

04

Why is this better than existing tools?

Anyone can use it. A farmer with any basic smartphone can tap their plot on the map and see their true boundary in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, or 30+ other Indian languages.

Unlike expensive GIS software that only engineers understand, BhuSetu is 100% free for citizens, works even on slow village internet, and produces official, legal dispute certificates.

05

What works right now?

  • WORKING NOW Automatic map alignment algorithm, plot-by-plot boundary comparison, boundary shift detection, downloadable Land Certificate, CPGRAMS government complaint filing flow, and 30+ language voice readout.
  • SIMULATED (Prototype) Direct connection to state land record servers (Bhulekh API) and real Aadhaar OTP verification (ready to go live once official government server access is granted).
06

How can this scale to all of India?

BhuSetu is designed to plug directly into every state government portal (like UP Bhulekh, Karnataka Bhoomi, Maharashtra MahaBhumi, Rajasthan Apna Khata) and work inside UMANG, India's national app used by over 60 million citizens.

Every verified dispute can be sent directly to CPGRAMS (the government's central grievance system), where officers must legally respond within 30 days. This can help resolve up to 70% of land disputes across India.
